Which two British poets wrote about their experiences in the First World War?
Correct Answer: Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon
Wilfred Owen (1893–1918) and Siegfried Sassoon (1886–1967) are the two most famous British war poets of the First World War. Both served on the Western Front and used their poetry to convey the horror and futility of trench warfare.
- Wilfred Owen wrote Dulce et Decorum Est and Anthem for Doomed Youth. He was killed in action on 4 November 1918 — just one week before the Armistice
- Siegfried Sassoon was known for his bitter, satirical anti-war poems and acts of protest. He survived the war and enjoyed a long literary career
