Correct Answer: The Holy Land
During the Crusades, European Christians fought to gain control of the Holy Land — the region around Jerusalem, which is sacred to Christians, Jews and Muslims. The Crusades were a series of military campaigns launched from the late 11th century onwards.
English kings including Richard I (Richard the Lionheart) led crusading armies to the Holy Land. The Crusades had a lasting impact on relations between Christian Europe and the Muslim world.
