Life in the UK Test 18

Northern Ireland and Wales have their own banknotes which are valid everywhere in the UK — but shops and businesses do not have to accept them. Is this true?
Correct Answer: False
True. Northern Ireland and Wales do produce their own banknotes, which are valid throughout the UK.
However, shops and businesses are not legally required to accept them — they can choose which forms of payment to accept.
This also applies to Scottish banknotes, which are often refused by businesses in England despite being valid currency.
